Zaccone on pole, debacle for Tulovic

This is how the MotoE qualifying went at the Sachsenring

In Q1, Nicholas Spinelli didn’t waste any time and set a new lap record of 1:26.386. From then on, the question was who would follow the Italian into Q2. After a red flag was issued due to Kevin Manfredi’s fall, there were another 2:29 minutes for a final shootout. Kevin Zannoni won this one. However, he was also more than three tenths behind Spinelli in the end.

Q2 started late because the air fences in turn 8 had to be repaired again after Q1. Lukas Tulovic crashed in turn 1 without setting a lap time. This ended the local hero’s hopes. The first few laps were cancelled by yellow flags. In the second lap, it was Spinelli again who set the best time. This time, however, only 74 thousandths ahead of Jordi Torres.

Oscar Gutierrez began the final phase brilliantly with a new best time. But this was countered. Alessandro Zaccone drove another 62 thousandths faster and thus set another lap record. After that, nothing more happened, instead there were further crashes by Mattia Casadei and Matteo Ferrari.

This gave Alessandro Zaccone pole position ahead of Oscar Gutierrez and Nicholas Spinelli. Row two goes to Hector Garzo ahead of Jordi Torres and Eric Granado. Lukas Tulovic suffered a debacle and will have to start from ninth place. He at least benefits from the fact that Kevin Zannoni was also unable to set a time in Q2.

Falls and incidents:

In Q1, Kevin Manfredi crashed at high speed in turn 8. The Italian was uninjured, but the bike was thrown into the air fences. The red flag was raised so that the fences could be repaired.

In Q2, Lukas Tulovic crashed on his first lap in turn 1. Mattia Casadei also went off the track there, but stayed seated. Later, Kevin Zannoni also crashed in turn 1. In the last minute, turn 13 claimed Matteo Ferrari and Mattia Casadei. Fortunately, all drivers were uninjured. But Casadei could be in trouble, as the stewards are investigating his crash under the yellow flag.
