Marc Marquez experiences monster highsider
He lost control of his machine in the Ralf Waldmann curve, also known as the waterfall. Marquez’s front wheel slipped and his attempt to save himself ended in a brutal highsider. Marquez flew several meters through the air and hit the asphalt hard. Nevertheless, a few minutes later he was back in the Gresini box with new protective equipment and continued training.
Marquez’s comeback was only brief. He completed five laps, set a provisional best time and then parked his Ducati in the pits. From there he went straight to the medical center at the Sachsenring. The examination there brought bad news for Marquez: he has broken his left index finger and suffered a severe bruise in the chest area. However, Marquez was declared fit by the race doctors and can therefore continue to take part in the race weekend for the German Grand Prix.
Bruise worries Marc Marquez
“The feeling on the bike was actually good, but this fall obviously has a big impact,” said Marquez on Friday evening. “The broken finger doesn’t worry me too much, but the bruises in the chest area bother me much more and that also prevented me from continuing the session. Now it’s about getting a good rest and then we’ll see what my physical condition is on Saturday.”
Marquez is definitely in for a stressful day on Saturday. His provisional best time was only enough for 13th place in the timesheet. This means that he will have to compete in Q1 in qualifying after the second free practice session in the morning. If Marquez finishes in the top two there, another 15 minutes in Q2 will follow, followed by the sprint at 3 p.m.
