One mistake after another at Dettwiler
18th place might not sound bad, but 16 seconds behind 15th place and thus the last point hurt. Dettwiler didn’t hold back with self-criticism: “To be honest, I’m a little at a loss for words. I’m very disappointed because I made a lot of stupid mistakes.” The big gap could not only be explained by a lack of speed.
“The first mistake caused me to lose touch with the group, and when I tried to make up ground, more mistakes crept in,” explained the young Swiss. The slipstream effect was particularly strong at Le Mans. Even the leaders were only able to break away from their pursuers very late in the race. The fact that Dettwiler lost touch right at the beginning cost double or triple the cost.
Long lap penalty makes used Sunday perfect
Then there was another blow to the neck: “I drove over the green too often and was punished with a long lap.” At least part of the big gap can be explained in this way, but the track limits also apply to everyone and the pilots in front of him received no penalty. But even without the long lap he would have had no chance of scoring points. It was just the end of a wasted Sunday.
Nevertheless, Dettwiler doesn’t let his head down. “It’s a shame how this weekend ended. Nevertheless, I will learn from it because it was definitely not a weekend to forget. I was able to set one or two highlights and there are also good aspects that we can take with us and learn from.” said the 19-year-old. So chop it off and attack again: “In Barcelona we will give it full throttle again.”
