A plan that caused confusion in the MotoGP paddock. The second half of the season, which began at the beginning of August, included the Grands Prix in Great Britain and Austria, back-to-back weekends in Misano and Aragon, two triple-headers in India, Indonesia and Japan or Australia, Thailand and Malaysia as well as the finale in Valencia already full to the brim.
Now Dorna’s considerations seem to make sense. As ‘Autosport’ reports, the 2024 Indian Grand Prix is about to be canceled. This coincides with paddock information from Motorsport-Magazin.com . The event was held for the first time last year, but the local organizer Fairstreet Sports is said to have missed payments. Dorna has now given a deadline of May 20th. If the outstanding amounts have not been received by then, the race weekend in the most populous country in the world will be canceled.
And this is exactly where Kazakhstan comes into play again: If necessary, the postponed Grand Prix should replace the Indian GP planned for September 20th to 22nd. Whether this could actually be implemented is also questionable. As we can hear, the Sokol International Racetrack is supposed to be finished, but there is a lack of trained staff to hold a MotoGP weekend. Those responsible in Kazakhstan have therefore already held talks with the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia to fly in up to 400 trained people from there.
At least there should be clarity soon about the cancellation of the Indian Grand Prix. The next few days will show whether the situation is actually as hopeless as it seems. Paddock insiders also believe that a clever maneuver by Dorna is conceivable, which could put pressure on the Indian organizer by deliberately disseminating information about Fairstreet Sports.
