Jorge Martin seems to have successfully preserved his outstanding speed from Le Mans. After winning the sprint and Grand Prix in France, he also leads the first free practice session of the MotoGP in Barcelona.

The result: Martin was able to set the best time in the last minutes of the session with a time of 1:39.579 minutes. He was 0.292 seconds faster than Marc Marquez, who, unlike Martin, had not changed to new tires. Third place went to Brad Binder ahead of Aleix Espargaro and Alex Marquez. Francesco Bagnaia took P7, followed by Augusto Fernandez and Jack Miller. Raul Fernandez completed the top ten.

Maverick Vinales finished eleventh, Fabio Quartararo was 15th, Enea Bastianini 19th and Marco Bezzecchi 22nd. Honda wildcard Stefan Bradl finished 23rd and last, 1.844 seconds behind.

Falls, defects & incidents: Pedro Acosta came off the track in the left-right combination of turns seven and eight and had to go through the gravel bed, but was able to avoid a fall.

The weather: The MotoGP started its race weekend in Barcelona relatively cool and with a thick cloud cover over the Circuit de Catalunya. The outside temperature in the first free practice session was 18 degrees, and the asphalt reached 25 degrees.
