Along with the stones and debris of the rocks and mountains, the cold lava of the volcano is also reaching the residential areas and causing havoc. So far 41 people have died. The figure is expected to increase. More than 17 people are missing.

Pictures of the devastation in Indonesia…
It has been raining in Agam and Tanah Datar districts of West Sumatra Island since May 11. Cooled lava-mountain debris can be seen in Tanah Datar district.
Many vehicles and houses were destroyed in the devastation in Tanah Datar district.
The cooled lava reached the residential areas along with the rain water. Due to this the area became muddy.
Many people got stuck in their homes due to rain. They were rescued to take them to a safe place.
Along with houses, mosques were also destroyed in Agam district.
The temperature of cold lava is less than 50°C.
Cooled lava is also known as lahar. Ash, sand and pebbles are found in it. These come down the slopes of the volcano from heavy rains.
According to several academic reports, the temperature of cold lava can range from 0°C to 100°C. Usually it is less than 50°C. The US Geological Survey said flowing cold lava has created mud in many areas. That’s why there are problems in the rescue operation.
Landslides in Agam and Tanah Datar districts of Sumatra Island have resulted in mudflows due to rain and cold lava flows.
Mount Marapi lava flowing

Indonesia falls in the ‘Ring of Fire’ area
Volcanoes are natural cracks present on the earth’s surface. Through these, molten substances like magma, lava, ash etc. come out from the interior of the earth with explosions.
Volcanoes are formed due to the collision of 7 tectonic plates and 28 sub-tectonic plates present on the Earth. The world’s most active volcano, Mount Etna, is in Italy.
According to Al Jazeera, Indonesia falls in the ‘Ring of Fire’ area. There are horse-shoe shaped tectonic fault lines near the Pacific Ocean. The Ring of Fire is an area where there are many continental as well as oceanic tectonic plates. When these plates collide with each other, earthquakes occur, tsunamis occur and volcanoes erupt. This area is spread over 40 thousand kilometers. Of all the active volcanoes in the world, 75% are in this region.
15 countries – Japan, Russia, Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand, Antarctica, Canada, America, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia are under the Ring of Fire.
