New look and more range

The manufacturer is revising the VW ID.3 competitor and installing a larger 84 kWh battery. The safety features are also being improved.

It feels like the fully electric EV6 hasn’t been around for all that long. A look at the vehicle documents reveals that the model has been on the streets for around three years. Since the competition never sleeps, the Koreans have put their hands on their electric car and are now presenting a facelift. The Kia is already on sale in the USA and in its home market of Korea. The European premiere is due to follow shortly.

The new EV6 looks familiar at first glance. Some visual changes may only become apparent at second glance. This includes the redesigned front, in particular. This includes the new lights and the revised LED daytime running signature, as found on the very latest Kia models. The main lights are now located below on the flanks in a triangular housing. Other changes include the narrow “grill” between the lights with the brand’s typical “lip” and the redesigned apron. Wheels with a new rim design in 19 or 20 inch format are installed under the wheel arches. The apron insert at the rear has also been changed.

Travel more quietly

The interior has a flattened two-spoke steering wheel, an updated screen housing and a new surface design for the raised center console. A 12-inch head-up display is available for the driver. Kia also worked on the noise level inside and installed additional insulation material. Together with the now quieter electric motors, the vehicle should be quieter on the road. The optimized shock absorbers also ensure greater driving comfort. A tech feature that is now standard is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition, a fingerprint authentication system is being introduced to provide additional security. In terms of safety, there is now a widened B-pillar for more body rigidity and ten airbags, including side airbags in the rear.

In terms of drive technology, the old 77.4 kWh battery was replaced with a new and larger 84 kWh unit. This also increases the range to almost 550 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. According to Kia, the charging time is around 18 minutes from 10 to 80 percent. Depending on your preference, the new EV6 can be configured with all-wheel drive or as a pure rear-wheel drive. The latter then has an output of 228 hp and 350 Newton meters of torque. The AWD version with an additional motor on the front axle creates a system output of 325 hp and 605 Newton meters of torque.
