Why Piastri doesn’t start from second place

As already mentioned, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri does not start from the front row in Imola. The Australian, who missed pole by just 0.074 seconds, was moved back three positions to fifth on the grid. This fact is due to an incident during the first qualifying section with Kevin Magnussen. Confirmed: Alonso starts from the pit lane

And then comes the stewards’ decision: As expected, Fernando Alonso starts from the pit lane after making changes to his suspension setup after qualifying. The basis for this is that the setup changes constitute a violation of the parc ferme conditions.

Let’s go from the top to the back of the field. Fernando Alonso had a completely unused day yesterday, Saturday. The Spaniard first had an accident in the third free practice session and then retired in Q1 in 19th place. Only because Logan Sargeant had his fastest lap canceled due to a violation of track limits did Alonso not qualify last. However, the old champion will probably still tackle the Emilia-Romagna GP from last place: As Alonso announced after qualifying, Aston Martin made changes to the setup, specifically to the wheel suspension. Accordingly, there is a violation of the parc ferme conditions. Alonso should now have to start from the pit lane, the matter is currently still preoccupying the stewards.

Verstappen not favorite in Imola despite pole?

In qualifying yesterday, Max Verstappen secured pole position for the seventh time in the seventh Grand Prix of the year. But is the reigning world champion also favorite for the race? The competition lurks behind him. Miami winner Lando Norris shares the front row with Verstappen after the grid penalty against teammate Oscar Piastri.
