Lewis Hamilton: Collaboration with Ferrari beyond the sporting aspect
At Mercedes, a foundation was set up together with the star driver and the traditional silver paintwork was even swapped for a black one to make a statement against racism. In this context, could Ferrari perhaps even renounce the legendary red? Hamilton knows how to reassure traditionalists: “I haven’t driven a black car for a while, so I probably won’t push for it too soon.”
Nevertheless, it is clear that commitment beyond sport is an important issue for Hamilton and therefore also played a role in his move. His good relationship with the Ferrari boss helped: “We definitely talked about charitable work and John [Elkann] and the team have a lot of philanthropic work that they do.”
Hamilton calls for commitment in Formula 1: We must do more!
“So we will be working very closely with Mission 44 [Hamiltons Stiftung, Anm. d. Red.] and work with the charitable things they do,” Hamilton announced. What exactly that will look like will probably not become clear until 2025. Hamilton is still contractually bound to Mercedes until the end of the year. But the move does not change his approach of being more than just a driver: “I think we need to do more within the sport, but we will also do a lot together outside of it. So that’s really exciting.”
