The German Football Association (DFB) expressly welcomes the joint decision by FIFA and UEFA to suspend all Russian teams from all national team and club competitions until further notice. Anyone who commits violence, who violates people and human rights, who wages war leaves the sporting community with their citizens. This makes us sad because we are sure that the Russian players, as well as the Russian football fans, bear no responsibility for this war. However, solidarity and compassion for the people in Ukraine and the clear position against a war that violates international law do not allow for any other decision.
In recent days, the DFB has worked intensively in numerous discussions to ensure a common positioning by all football associations under the leadership of UEFA and its President Aleksander Čeferin and is relieved that a joint decision has now been made worldwide in agreement with FIFA. The partnership with Gazprom The DFB also believes that ending all UEFA competitions with immediate effect is a correct and consistent decision by UEFA.
