The film ‘Barah Bai Barah’ is a film based on the backdrop of Banaras and is of that period when there were no mobile phones. There used to be a different kind of photographers who used to take pictures of the bodies brought for cremation at the Manikarnika Ghat in Banaras. But with the advent of mobile phones, their livelihood was snatched away. This film was released in theatres last week. The film’s director Gaurav Madan, actors Gyanendra Tripathi, Geetika Vidya and Harish Khanna spoke to Dainik Bhaskar.

Regarding the story of the film, director Gaurav Madan said- The story is about a photographer who takes pictures of the dead at Manikarnika Ghat in Banaras. This film is about the ups and downs in his life. When Gyanendra Tripathi came to the office for the first time, just by looking at his eyes, I felt that I have found my Sun. I had seen Geetika Vidya’s first film ‘Soni’ at the MAMI festival. Then I had thought that Geetika is perfect for the role of Mansi in the film.

Actor Gyanendra Tripathi, who plays the role of Suraj in the film, said – This film is based on the theme of migration. In a way, death is also a migration from one world to another. You cannot stop it. If someone tries to stop it, how long can he fight? Because it is equivalent to fighting nature. I felt that Suraj is trying to stop that thing somewhere.

Actor Harish Khanna, who played Manoj Sharma’s father in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film 12th Fail, has played the role of Parvat in this film. Harish said – just as the character’s name is Parvat, he is also steadfast. Actress Geetika Vidya, who plays Manasi, said – Manasi is a character that does not stop. Manasi’s character is like a river that flows by making a path beside the mountains.

After being appreciated in more than 40 film festivals around the world, the film ‘Barah Bai Barah’ was released last week. The specialty of this film is that in this digital era, the film has been shot on a 16mm camera.
