Not only the story or dialogues of the film, people still hum the songs of the film with great love. ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ) redefined romance in Indian cinema, blending traditional values with modern sensibilities. However, after years, Lalit Pandit of the duo Jatin-Lalit, who composed the songs for this film, has expressed his displeasure with Kumar Sanu.
‘Tujhe Dekha To’ is one of the superhit songs of the film. This song was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Kumar Sanu and the music was given by the duo Jatin-Lalit. ‘It’s my song, it’s my song’, this is not good
In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Lalit Pandit said that it is a bit disturbing that Kumar Sanu, who sang the hit song ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam’, never gave credit to Anand Bakshi for writing the lyrics and us (Jatin-Lalit) for composing the music for the song. He said that his (Kumar Sanu) constantly saying that this is ‘mera gana, mera gana’ is not good.
‘If a song becomes a hit, only the singer does not get the credit’
Lalit Pandit stressed that after a song becomes a hit, it is not only the singer who gets the credit for it. Both the lyricist and the composer have a very important role in it. He further said, ‘The composer is the master of the song. He decides who will sing his song. This was the best song of Kumar Sanu’s career, so it was not good to not give credit to Anand Bakshi and us.’
Kumar Sanu never worked with YRF again
Composer Lalit Pandit told that after ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam’, Kumar Sanu never worked with Yash Raj Films. During the making of the song, some incidents happened which were unpleasant. He said, ‘DDLJ was the last film of Yash Raj banner for which Kumar Sanu sang. Yashji never made him sing again. Sometimes wrong things happen’.
There were fights with the singers, but…
Lalit Pandit, who recently composed for Panchayat 3, said that we used to fight only while working. There were fights with all the singers when we composed songs. There were fights with Udit Narayan as well. Udit is very hardworking and despite our fights at work, he never forgets to give us due credit.
Jatin-Lalit duo had separated in 2006
Let us tell you that the Jatin-Lalit duo composed some of the most popular Hindi film albums of the 90s, including ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’, ‘Yes Boss’ and many others, but the two brothers separated in 2006. ‘Fanaa’ was their last music album together. In an earlier conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Lalit said, ‘During Fanaa, we had separated. After this we were not going to work together. Aditya Chopra also knew about this, he knew everything about it. The composer shared that it was ‘shocking’ for the film industry, but he felt that he ended this journey with top music.
