New Delhi, Bollywood’s ‘He Man’ Dharmendra started his acting career in the year 1960 with the film ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’. However, he did not get much recognition from this film. Very few people know that Dharmendra got only Rs 51 as fee in this film.

In the beginning of his career, Dharmendra worked in films like ‘Surat Aur Seerat’, ‘Bandini’, ‘Dulhan Ek Raat’. But he got recognition in the acting world from the film ‘Phool Aur Patthar’. This proved to be the first hit film of Dharmendra’s career. In the year 1960, Dharmendra, known as the Heman of Bollywood, had entered the world of acting. But after this he never looked back. Dharmendra had told the story related to the fees of his first film during the reality show Dance Deewane 3. He was seen as a guest in this show. Dharmendra ji said- ‘I was selected for the film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, I was called for the film. Where I reached, there were three cabins, so I went and sat in the middle one and started listening to what they would give me. Then everyone took out Rs 17 each and gave me Rs 51. The actor also mentioned that he considers those 51 rupees as lucky for him.

The first film failed at the box office
Dharmendra’s debut film was ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’. He did not get much recognition from this film. But he did not give up and after this he worked in many films. Dharmendra played the role of a villain in Rajendra Kumar’s 1964 film Aayi Milan Ki Bela. He got great recognition from this film. He became a star overnight. But after this film he definitely played grey-shaded roles. But did not play a negative role.
