The electric SUV has been teased and presented in studies in recent years. Now it has been officially presented. The vehicle is called the Wagoneer S and is the smallest model in the Wagoneer lineup. A larger combustion engine Wagoneer or Grand Wagoneer (length up to 5.76 meters) has been available in the USA for some time. The big ship plays in the league of so-called “full-size SUVs” à la Chevrolet Suburban or Cadillac Escalade. Next to its big brother, the smaller, all-electric Wagoneer S is almost a dwarf at 4.89 meters. But it is still a big car by European standards.
Visually, the design studies are followed on and an SUV in the style of the new Cherokee is presented with a tendency towards more aerodynamics – not a bad thing for an electric vehicle. At the front, the traditional Jeep grill has been reinterpreted, closed and illuminated. Narrow LED lights on the flanks complement the “cooler unit”. The actual air intake is located far down in the apron and is kept dark. The spoiler lip is striking, which ensures improved air resistance and directs the air flow below the vehicle further along the smooth underbody towards the rear. In addition, a three-dimensionally shaped front tire wind deflector and side skirts in an aero design are attached. The aerodynamics also plays a role at the rear, where the Jeep has two spoilers: a small one directly below the window edge and another, larger and open one on the roof edge.

Four displays in the interior
As with its bigger brother, the Wagoneer, Jeep hasn’t skimped on screens in the E-version and has installed four screens in the cockpit. While there are two displays in the middle of the dashboard, there is another one each for the driver and front passenger. Gear selection is handled by a rotary knob in the center console, and the doors can be opened from the inside with an electronic door opener with a light touch. The two-tone interior is made almost exclusively from recycled and vegan materials. Ventilated and heated seats can also be found in the second row.

Sprint competition for Tesla
The basis of the electric SUV is a 100.5 kWh battery, which is connected to a 400-volt voltage network. This means that the battery level can be filled from 10 to 80 percent on the fast charger in around 23 minutes. According to the American EPA cycle, the range for the Wagoneer S is over 300 miles. According to the European WLTP standard, this could result in a range of over 600 kilometers. All four wheels are always driven, although the front and rear wheels can also be controlled and moved independently of one another to reduce power consumption. The output of the two electric motors is 600 hp and 832 Newton meters of torque. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes an extremely fast 3.4 seconds, making the traditional American 0.3 seconds faster than its compatriot Tesla Model Y. The “Select Terrain Traction Management” with the driving modes “Auto”, “Sport”, “Eco”, “Snow” and “Sand” also ensures progress in almost all driving and surface conditions.

The market launch for the new Jeep Wagoneer S will initially take place in North America in the second half of 2024. Here, the “Launch Edition” costs the equivalent of around 66,085 euros. The global launch of the electric SUV built in Mexico is then scheduled for 2025.
