Formula E will contest races eleven and twelve of its tenth season in Shanghai this weekend, May 25/26, 2024. Unlike in previous years, ProSiebenSat.1 is no longer on board, but the races of the Electric World Championship can still be seen live on free TV.
The new TV channel DF1, which will broadcast the races and qualifyings from China live on free TV, is now responsible for broadcasting in Germany. However, at the start of the qualifying, which begins on Saturday and Sunday at 4:20 a.m. German time, DF1 will not yet broadcast, but will only go on air at 5:00 a.m., i.e. 40 minutes after the start of the time hunt.
Formula E in Shanghai 2024: DF1 broadcast with Daniel Abt
As of January 1, 2024, DF1 took over Servus TV Deutschland’s broadcast slot in the free-to-air satellite and cable network. Although DF1 itself does not hold the rights to Formula E, the races are broadcast there through a cooperation with Servus TV. Servus TV, the largest Austrian private broadcaster, holds the rights to Formula E for Germany and Austria.
In Austria the races will continue to be shown on ServusTV. Unlike in Berlin, at least the race on Saturday will be broadcast live, while the Sunday race will only be shown as a re-live around nine hours later.
The commentators receive prominent reinforcement from two-time Formula E race winner Daniel Abt, who had already been part of the ProSiebenSat.1 broadcasts as an expert and co-commentator.

Like last time in Berlin, the weekend in Shanghai is a double-header. Accordingly, two races will take place on Saturday and Sunday morning German time. When will the Formula E races be on TV on DF1? If you don’t have a TV, you can also watch Formula E 2024 in the live stream. In Germany, DF1 provides a free live stream on the website DF1.de available. Also via the streaming platform Hello TV On The action on the track can be followed on ServusTV Motorsport and MagentaTV.
In addition to the free TV offer, the tenth Formula E season will also be shown live on pay TV on Eurosport 2 in German-speaking countries, as well as in Germany and Austria on the streaming service discovery+. The free training sessions are also on the official YouTube channel of Formula E to see.
