The new Mazda 6 will be electric

The 6 Series has been an integral part of Mazda’s model portfolio for over 22 years and replaced the 626 at the time. Three model generations later, the latest version is now coming onto the market and introduces the abbreviation “EZ” in front of the number “6”. In terms of size, with a length of 4.92 meters, it remains roughly in the current territory, although the new one is a little larger. Visually, you can’t really see the increase in length of the vehicle at first glance. The front looks sporty and has a new branded grille, which is now partially illuminated, as well as extremely narrow arrow-shaped LED lights.

The sides are ironed smooth and the recessed door handles contribute to aerodynamics. The window line (underlined by a striking chrome trim) extends almost to the rear. By the way, the doors are frameless. The roofline also extends far back and gives the new Mazda EZ-6 a coupé-like appearance. Directly under the rear window is the actively extendable spoiler, which is otherwise only known from German four-door premium coupes. An LED light strip was installed directly underneath, connecting the brand’s typical round lights with horizontal lighting elements. There are large 19-inch models in the wheel arches.

The interior is as new as the exterior. While we in this country are used to Mazda models having a rather small infotainment screen that is set far back on the dashboard, the new 6 Series comes with a large central screen. All keys and buttons seem to be integrated directly into the screen and are therefore omitted. Cupholders and a large wireless charging pad for smartphones are integrated into the wide “floating” center console. The two-tone cockpit as well as the dark wood and chrome decorative elements look elegant.

We look at China with envy

Mazda will bring its new mid-range model onto the road fully electric but also as a plug-in hybrid. However, the technical drive details have not yet been published. The E version will feature rear-wheel drive and will have a range of up to 600 kilometers. Unfortunately, the new Mazda EZ-6 presented at the Beijing Motor Show will only be launched in China. It is currently unclear whether other Asian markets will follow. As things currently stand, the model will no longer make it to North America and Europe – a shame! The current (and somewhat outdated) 3rd generation of models is currently still available in Germany.
