The second MotoGP wildcard entry for Stefan Bradl’s season got off to a bumpy start on Friday. He was unable to take part in the afternoon training session. As employer Honda announced, Bradl was suffering from gastroenteritis.

It is still questionable whether Bradl will be able to compete for the rest of the weekend. His health will be assessed again on Saturday morning. The aim is to then be able to return to track operations.

This would be particularly important for Honda’s struggling MotoGP project. Test driver Bradl is driving his wildcard in Barcelona with a number of updates to the RC213V, such as a new exhaust and modified aerodynamics. Updates that need to be tested in racing.

In the first free practice session on Friday morning in Barcelona, Bradl finished 23rd and last. He was 1.844 seconds behind Jorge Martin’s best time. Bradl’s Honda colleagues Johann Zarco, Luca Marini, Joan Mir and Takaaki Nakagami finished 13th, 17th, 18th and 20th in this session.
