For the Belgian endurance classic, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, SSR-Herberth has hired a top trio from the Porsche works squad: the reigning Bathurst and Daytona winner Matt Campbell will take turns at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R with the Frenchman Fred Makowiecki and Mathieu Jaminet from France.
SSR Performance: Return to the GT3 Porsche
Herberth Motorsport, run by twin brothers Alfred and Robert Renauer, has been using Porsche racing cars for many years and is well versed in the GT World Challenge, whose racing calendar includes the 24 Hours of Spa. SSR Performance is now returning to familiar territory: With GT3-Porsche, the team led by owner Stefan Schlund immediately won the driver and team championship in the ADAC GT Masters in 2020.
After winning the runner-up championship the following year, SSR was promoted from the GT Masters to the DTM for the 2022 season. With the Porsche driver trio Laurens Vanthoor/Christian Engelhart/Dennis Olsen, the team ultimately took eighth place in the team championship. Since 2023, SSR Performance has relied on the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in the traditional German racing series. This year Mirko Bortolotti and, for the first time, Nicki Thiim will once again appear for the reigning runner-up team.
Bayern connection at the 24h race in Spa
“It’s nice that, in addition to our DTM commitment, we can also demonstrate our skills in the endurance sector,” says SSR boss Stefan Schlund, whose company also takes care of the refinement of sports cars. “I’m really looking forward to our cooperation with Herberth Motorsport, it’s definitely going to be fantastic. Our locations are only about 30 minutes apart, so there are great synergies.”
Cooperation partner Alfred Renauer from the Herberth team based inäßenhofen near Munich adds: “As a team, we bring a lot of long-distance experience to this joint operation. We have been competing at SRO events for years and Spa is always a very special highlight.”
