The The 2024 24h Nürburgring had to be interrupted for the first time with red flags shortly before midnight. After 46 completed laps, race director Walter Hornung waved red flags at the 52nd edition of the Eifel classic.

The reason for the temporary cancellation, which was announced at 11:22 p.m.: Heavy fog on the race track meant that the race could no longer be carried out safely. “The weather does not allow us to continue,” explained Hornung. “Some marshals can no longer see each other. Safety is not guaranteed at the moment. That’s why I had no choice but to stop the race.”

24h Nürburgring: Re-start on Sunday morning at the earliest

It was not immediately clear when the race could be continued. Race officials said that the Re-start at 07:00 on Sunday morning at the earliest Overall, it was the ninth abandonment in the history of the 24-hour race.

All racing cars returned to the pit lane at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Since no Parc Ferme was announced, the teams were allowed to repair the partially damaged vehicles and also change the tires.

The #99 Rowe-BMW (Frijns/S. van der Linde/D. Vanthoor/Farfus) was already out of the circle of contenders for victory after an accident that was not his fault and was caused by Sheldon van der Linde. The former DTM champion collided with a slower Porsche Cayman while in the lead. The two GetSpeed-Mercedes also had to retire early after collisions. The #34 Walkenhorst-Aston-Martin (Krognes/Giermaziak/Pittard/Thiim) had already left the leading group early after suffering a puncture.
