The organizers of the German Grand Prix can once again celebrate a record number of spectators – for the third time in a row. 252,826 MotoGP fans flocked to the Sachsenring over the entire weekend, surpassing the previous record from last year, when 233,196 spectators were registered, by almost 20,000 fans.
Figures that those responsible at the Sachsenring and the organizer ADAC were naturally very satisfied with. The fact that the 2024 German Grand Prix took place in the middle of the four-week European Football Championship in the same country makes the visitor record all the more impressive.
The major football event made the originally desired date impossible and also ensured that another German motorsport highlight, the DTM, took place at the Norisring at the same time. But the fans remained loyal to the Sachsenring and were not deterred by the cold and rain on the first few days.
“The MotoGP at the Sachsenring is a family event,” says Klaus Klötzner, chairman of the ADAC Saxony. The ADAC also makes this possible with family-friendly entrance prices. The organizers’ stated goal for the near future is for a standing ticket to cost no more than 99 euros.
The contract between those responsible for the German Grand Prix and MotoGP rights holder Dorna runs until 2026 inclusive. There is optimism about a further contract extension. Although the takeover of Dorna by Liberty Media has caused some uncertainty in the MotoGP paddock, Carmelo Ezpeleta and his colleagues are to remain in their positions – and they are extremely satisfied with the event at the Sachsenring.
