The debut race of the newly founded Nürburgring Endurance Series (NES) will no longer take place in 2024. After the first two rounds of the competition championship After the NLS (Nürburgring Endurance Series) was canceled due to a lack of staff, the series announced on Friday that there would be no more races at all this year.
The problem for the NES is the lack of marshals to hold a race around the approximately 25 kilometer long Nürburgring Nordschleife. The originally planned premiere on March 23rd on the 5.1 kilometer long GP route had to be canceled at short notice for this reason, as did the second run at the beginning of May.
Too few sports marshals: NES debut postponed to 2025
In both cases, a short-term accumulation of cancellations by marshals and marshals groups was given as the decisive reason. According to the racing series, a total of 88 marshals withdrew their participation in the second NES run on Friday, May 3rd, the day before the race. Three more dates were originally planned for 2024, namely from June 5th to 6th, September 13th to 15th and November 8th to 9th.
In addition to the lack of marshals, the size of the starting field was also a problem for the series. It is not known how many teams and cars wanted to take part in the first two races. However, the NES itself spoke of an “unsatisfactory” number of starters.
NES wants to train its own sports marshals
The cancellations came in the course of a long-lasting power struggle between the NES, which was founded by the AvD (Automobile Club of Germany), and the ADAC, the official name sponsor of the NLS is. Both wanted to hold the prestigious endurance races on the Nordschleife in 2024. After a court order from the Koblenz Higher Regional Court, those responsible at the Nürburgring had to grant dates to both racing series.
The NES plans to celebrate its premiere in 2025. In order to avoid a repeat of the shortage of marshals, we want to promote the training of marshals ourselves. Dates for completing such training should be offered on the racing series’ website.
