After his best time of the day on MotoGP Friday in Barcelona, Aleix Espargaro was also the fastest man on the track in FP2 on Saturday morning. Training did not go well for Marc Marquez, who missed the top ten on Friday and will therefore have to compete in Q1 in qualifying. He crashed early in the session.

The result: Aleix Espargaro achieved the best time in the second free practice session with a time of 1:39.294 minutes. Francesco Bagnaia was second, just 0.012 seconds slower, and finished ahead of Pramac riders Franco Morbidelli and Jorge Martin. Pedro Acosta took fifth place ahead of the RNF-Aprilia duo of Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez. Fabio Quartararo and the Marquez brothers Alex and Marc completed the top ten.

Brad Binder finished 12th, just ahead of Jack Miller and Enea Bastianini. Maverick Vinales finished 15th. Honda wildcard Stefan Bradl, who missed Friday afternoon’s practice after suffering a stomach infection, was back in action in FP2. He finished last, 1.381 seconds behind.

Falls, defects & incidents: For Marc Marquez, his intense Saturday in Barcelona did not get off to a great start with his Q1. He lost control of his Ducati deep into the corner at Turn 5 and ended up in the gravel. However, Marquez was able to restart the bike on the service road and return to the pits himself.

Johann Zarco also crashed in turn five in the final phase of training.

The weather: The MotoGP started its sprint Saturday in sunshine. In the second free practice session, the outside temperature was 19 degrees and the asphalt was 22 degrees.
