Those who are believed dead live longer – this may also apply to Logan Sargeant. Under great contractual pressure, the Williams driver delivered his best race weekend of the 2024 Formula 1 season. There were no points for P11, but he finally successfully handed over the red lantern in the drivers’ world championship to Valtteri Bottas.
Logan Sargeant: Pit stops in Silverstone suboptimal
The best qualifying of the year (P12) was followed by the best race of the year (P11). “100 percent. I was really fast on the slicks!” said a visibly relaxed Logan Sargeant. “I’m very happy with the direction we’ve taken with the car.” Postscript: “Unfortunately, still one place too few!”
At least the Williams driver won the battle against Kevin Magnussen for P11. Even more would have been possible, valuable time was lost during the double pit stop on lap 27 (3.73 seconds). Also because Alex Albon’s time was 8.51 seconds. Nevertheless: “It was a good race and I did everything really well!”, says the man from Florida proudly.
“We didn’t have the pace on the Inter and struggled a lot with tyre wear. And we probably switched back to slicks a little too late,” the 23-year-old analysed. “But looking back, that’s easy to say. All in all, we did a good job. We pulled ourselves together under difficult conditions and gave ourselves a chance.”
The conditions at Silverstone played into Logan Sargeant’s hands. The FW46, which had been given a special paint job for the home race, worked better in cooler temperatures, but there were also two retirements, Pierre Gasly and George Russell, and several drivers with nightmare weekends (think Charles Leclerc or Sergio Perez).
Nevertheless: The next sign of life after he won the internal team duel for the second time in the sprint qualifying in Austria.
Logan Sargeant does not give up on Formula 1 dream
Although James Vowles challenged him again on Friday in Silverstone, the American refuses to give up his dream of remaining in the premier class. “We are constantly evaluating this,” said the Williams team boss, referring to the performance-oriented nature of Formula 1 and does not want to rule out a driver change during the season.
Logan Sargeant is on the up, but Sergio Perez still can’t find a way out of his slump. P19 in qualifying, P17 in the race. The Red Bull driver is happy that Formula 1 doesn’t start again for another two weeks. You can find out all about it here:
