KTM continues to write MotoGP headlines! Following the signings of Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini and the associated departures of Jack Miller and Augusto Fernandez, there are now restructurings in the management of the Austrian manufacturer.

Fabiano Sterlacchini’s KTM contract not renewed

Fabiano Sterlacchini, who was brought in as Technical Director of the MotoGP project in June 2021, will no longer work for KTM. He will no longer be taking part in the race weekend at the Sachsenring. “It was a stormy week for us,” explains KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer. “Fabiano’s contract expired last month. We tried to reach a contract extension over the past few weekends, but ultimately we just couldn’t agree on a few points.”

Beirer did not want to reveal exactly what these were: “We agreed not to go into detail. The distance of 800 or 900 kilometers to his home in Italy definitely did not help. But that should not be an excuse. We could not agree on a few points, which is why we decided to separate by mutual consent.”

KTM and Fabiano Sterlacchini: No bad blood

As Beirer emphasizes, the collaboration with Sterlacchini did not end in a dispute. “We would have liked to have signed another three-year contract with Fabiano,” explains the KTM Motorsport Director. “I am sad that we were not able to finish what we started together. We had a plan and a mission that we now unfortunately have to give up. Fabiano recognized areas in our project that we had not covered before. He built them up and took a different path. Thanks to him, the project is now much more stable and we have more good people on the team. I am very satisfied with his work over the last three years. But Fabiano is leaving our company as a friend.”

It is not yet known who will take on the role of Technical Director at KTM in the future. However, it seems that the position will be filled internally. “We have a great engineer at home who will take on this role,” reveals Pit Beirer.
