Kevin Zannoni wins his second MotoE race in a row in Mugello! In a last-lap duel, he beat world champion Mattia Casadei. Eric Granado came third, ahead of Massimo Roccoli and Andrea Mantovani. In the drivers’ championship, the Aspar driver Zannoni extends his lead over Casadei to 6 points. Oscar Gutierrez is third in the world championship, 15 points behind.
Lukas Tulovic was absent from the MotoE race in Mugello due to injury. The German crashed brutally in the last corner of the first lap at the first race start at midday and was then treated on the track for a few minutes. He was then taken to a nearby hospital for further examinations. Tulovic was conscious, and nothing is known about possible injuries so far.
This is how the MotoE race in Mugello went:
START: Kevin Zannoni gets the best start, leaving Mattia Casadei and Alessandro Zaccone behind. Eric Granado and Nicholas Spinelli are lurking behind.
Lap 02/07: Zannoni defends his lead until the first corner and is able to keep his competitors behind him. In turn 10, Eric Granado brakes past Zaccone and takes third place.
Lap 03/07: Zaccone has lost another position to his teammate Spinelli and is now only fifth.
Lap 04/07: Spinelli and Zaccone have now countered Granado, the Brazilian is back in P5. Spinelli sets the fastest lap and closes the gap to Casadei and Zannoni. But he makes a mistake in turn 5 and loses a lot of time and two positions.
Lap 05/07: Massimo Roccoli is now battling with Granado for the last place on the podium. He passes before turn one, but loses third place to Granado a little later. Zannoni and Casadei were able to pull away slightly.
Lap 06/07: Granado overtakes Roccoli again and leads the chasing group. At the front, Casadei prepares a maneuver against Zannoni.
Lap 07/07: Casadei and Zannoni fight it out for victory. The gap between the pursuers is almost two seconds. In turn one, Casadei tries the maneuver, but he goes wide and Zannoni slips through again on the inside.
FINISH: Zannoni wins! The Aspar driver is able to fend off the attack of his compatriot Casadei and score his second victory in a row. Casadei’s deficit at the finish is only 0.21 seconds. Eric Granado comes in third, winning a close duel against Massimo Roccoli, Andrea Mantovani and Alessandro Zaccone.
