Hector Gazo celebrates his first win of the season in Assen in race 1 of the MotoE. Alessandro Zaccone had led the race for a long time, but on the last lap the Intact GP rider made the decisive maneuver for victory. Zaccone finished second ahead of Oscar Gutierrez, who showed a great comeback. Jordi Torres, Miquel Pons and Matteo Ferrari finished in fourth to sixth place. Lukas Tulovic finished eighth after a bad start.
The race had a bitter end for World Championship rivals Nicholas Spinelli and Kevin Zannoni. The former crashed through his own fault in turn three. Zannoni collided with Eric Granado in turn five on the last lap. World champion Mattia Casadei was taken out of the race in the first corner when Andrea Mantovani hit him in the rear.
In the drivers’ championship, Casadei leads Kevin Zannoni by four points, with Hector Garzo another 15 points behind in third place.

Begin: Zannoni wins the start! Garzo also brakes next to Zaccone and takes P2. Further back, Casadei crashes after contact with Mantovani! Mantovani clearly braked too late in turn one and knocked the reigning world champion off the line.
2nd round: Zaccone has now taken the lead and is ahead of Zannoni. Eric Granado is lurking behind Garzo in fourth place. Tulovic lost seven positions on the first lap and is only 14th.
3rd round:Hector Garzo now picks up the pace and catches Kevin Zannoni for second place. Granado also passes him. Zannoni does not seem to be able to keep up with the pace of the leaders.
4th round: Granado moves further ahead and leaves Garzo behind. The Brazilian is now second. Zaccone is in the lead, just under four tenths of a second ahead of him.
5th round: Garzo counters Granado in turn five. Oscar Gutierrez has now moved into the top five. He has just overtaken Jordi Torres.
6th round: Nicholas Spinelli crashes! He loses his front wheel in turn four and is out of the race. At the front, Gutierrez tries to attack Granado, but he goes wide and Granado is able to counter. At the front, Garzo has closed the gap to Zaccone.
7th round: Gutierrez brakes past Granado in turn one and is now in third place. Zannoni and Granado collide! Granado wanted to overtake in turn five, they touch and both crash.
Finish line: Hector Garzo wins! The Intact GP driver overtakes Zaccone in the last sector and defends his lead through the final chicane. Oscar Gutierrez defends third place on the last lap and completes the podium. Jordi Torres takes fourth place ahead of Miquel Pons and Matteo Ferrari. Behind him, Massimo Roccoli, Lukas Tulovic, Alessio Finelli and Chaz Davies complete the top 10.
