Francesco Bagnaia dominates training on Friday afternoon

The last two MotoGP victories in Mugello went to Francesco Bagnaia. The reigning world champion once again put himself in the favorite position for victory in the Italian Grand Prix on Friday.

The result: Bagnaia was 0.273 seconds faster than Alex Rins, who has been very strong with the Yamaha this weekend, in 1:44.938 minutes. Third place went to Pedro Acosta ahead of Miguel Oliveira. Marc Marquez easily made it into the top ten in fifth place after qualifying debacles in Le Mans and Barcelona. Enea Bastianini, Jorge Martin, Alex Marquez, Maverick Vinales and Aleix Espargaro grabbed the last places for direct entry into Q2.

Fabio Quartararo, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Brad Binder and Marco Bezzecchi, among others, will have to compete in Q1.

Falls, defects & incidents: Joan Mir came off the track in the Biondetti chicane and had to go through the gravel trap, but was able to avoid a crash.

Pedro Acosta braked too late in turn one and also ploughed through the gravel. Later he flew off at high speed in Biondetti 1. Acosta got off lightly, but his GasGas machine was badly damaged and he had to be brought back to the pits on a scooter. For Acosta, it was already the second crash of the day after a fall in the first free practice session.

Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez got in each other’s way in the last minutes of the session. Bagnaia was driving slowly on the racing line, and Marquez, who was following behind, almost crashed into the back of Bagnaia’s machine. The scene is being investigated by the stewards.

The weather: After heavy rain on Thursday, it rained again after the first free practice session of the MotoGP on Friday. The sun came out for the afternoon training session, but there were still some wet spots on the track. The outside temperature was measured at 21 degrees. The asphalt reached 38 degrees.
