The accident between the #99 Rowe-BMW (Frijns/S. van der Linde/D. Vanthoor/Farfus) and the #420 Porsche Cayman of Four Motors at the The 2024 24h Nürburgring has a sequel. Alesia Kreutzpointner was identified as the cause of the crash and must pay a fine of 1,500 euros. On top of that, the 25-year-old loses her DPN Nordschleife permit.
The sports commissioners assessed the penalty imposed on the racing driver on Sunday as “sufficient, but necessary” in view of the overall situation. For the Cayman-Porsche, the race was over early anyway after the collision, in which a third car, the #507 1 Series BMW from Giti Tire, was involved. The #99 from Rowe-BMW was out of the race for overall victory early after the accident.
Rowe-BMW crashes while leading at 24h Nürburgring
Particularly bitter for the 2020 Nürburgring winners: At the time of the incident, Sheldon van der Linde in the lead. The former DTM champion was devastated: “I’m fine, but my heart hurts. We had a really good car. I was extremely careful in traffic the whole time so that something like this didn’t happen. It really wasn’t my fault – I would do everything the same again. This is extremely shitty for us. I just feel sorry for the team.”
Kreutzpointner, who shared the Porsche with her sister Jacqueline, among others, immediately apologized several times to the Rowe team. “She didn’t see me, I was in her blind spot,” said van der Linde. “She said ‘sorry’ ten times, which is extremely nice of her. But that doesn’t save our race.” The daughter of former racing driver Fritz Kreutzpointner made her debut in motor racing in 2020 and started in the ADAC GT4 Germany. In 2021 and 2022 she also competed in races on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Van der Linde was on his 22nd lap after starting from P7 and was preparing to lap the 1 Series BMW and the Cayman Porsche. Then the BMW works driver lost control of the BMW M4 GT3 and crashed into the guard rails after taking a hit on the left side from the Four Motors Porsche. “It’s one of those moments you don’t like to experience,” said BMW M Managing Director Frank van Meel.
