Every year in July, the motorsport world makes a pilgrimage to England for one of the world’s largest racing festivals. The famous Goodwood Festival of Speed ​​from 11 to 14 July with four days of a packed program full of legendary cars and drivers. Among them are Formula 1 world champions. This year Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso are among the participants. The career of Niki Lauda will also be celebrated, as well as anniversaries of Mercedes and Red Bull.

Like every year, Goodwood takes place over four days from July 11th to 14th. On all four days, there is a packed program from morning to evening. The main attraction of the festival: cars tackle the 1.86-kilometer Goodwood Hill Climb almost all day long. There is everything to see here – from steam-powered cars from 1893 to the Mercedes F1 W12 from 2021.

Not all of them are just show runs. A small selection of participants will also take part in the famous Shootout on Sunday, a timed race that has been held since 1993. For years, Nick Heidfeld held the record here with a legendary run in the Formula 1 McLaren MP4/13. It was not until 2022 that he was beaten by Max Chilton in the electric McMurtry Speirling with a total time of 39.08 seconds.

Formula 1 participants in Goodwood: These active drivers are at the start

As every year, numerous familiar faces from the Formula 1 paddock will be appearing in Goodwood. The star guests in 2024 will certainly be world champions Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso. Alonso will be appearing in the radical Aston Martin Valiant, a super sports car with a V12 biturbo and 745 hp, which was developed according to his wishes.

Verstappen is at the start as part of a big Red Bull show. The energy drink company is celebrating its 20th anniversary in Formula 1 in Goodwood. Both regular drivers are there. Verstappen will drive the RB16B, with which he won his first world championship in 2021. Sergio Perez will be at the start of the 2022 RB18.

Daniel Ricciardo and team boss Christian Horner are also registered as drivers for the RB7 (2011) and the RB8 (2012), two of Sebastian Vettel’s world championship cars. In total, Red Bull wants to either exhibit or demonstrate all of its F1 cars. The RB17 hypercar, designed by Adrian Newey, is also due to be unveiled on Friday.

Racing Bulls pilot Yuki Tsunoda will tackle the hill, but in the Honda RA272, a 1965 F1 car from the brand. Alex Albon, Logan Sargeant and their team boss James Vowles will share the driving duties in the 1982 world champion Williams FW08. Alpine juniors Sophia Flörsch and Jack Doohan will drive a 2012 Lotus E20. Future Haas driver Oliver Bearman will be driving the Ferrari SF70-H from the 2017 season.

Goodwood celebrates Niki Lauda’s career & Mercedes’ history

As has been the case for years, Mercedes is also bringing a modern Formula 1 car to Goodwood. Reserve driver Frederik Vesti will be at the wheel of the 2021 W12. This time it is part of a major show run series with which the Stuttgart-based company is celebrating 130 years of motorsport. Also on display will be Grand Prix cars from the 1930s, sports prototypes from the 80s and 90s and numerous GT models.

The career of three-time world champion Niki Lauda is also being celebrated. Old BRM models, three variations of the Ferrari 312, the famous vacuum cleaner Brabham BT46B owned by ex-F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone and two McLarens are this time grouped together under the special group “Niki Lauda: The Resilient Racer”.

Numerous other motorsport legends can also be found there. Whether F1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, Hans-Joachim Stuck in the Auto Union Type 52, NASCAR legend Kyle Petty in the famous Plymoth Superbird, Jacky Ickx in the Le Mans-winning Porsche 936/77 or rally veteran Stig Blomqvist in the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2.
