Special gloves and adapted MotoGP handlebars will not prevent pain
“We were actually very fast, but there were two big mistakes on my part and two heavy crashes. Unfortunately, I broke half of my hand during the second one. I’m in a lot of pain, I can’t close my hand and I have no strength in it. It’s going to be very difficult,” said the Aprilia rider, anticipating a big challenge.

But the Catalan remains a tough guy in his last season. “It’s the last race before the summer break and it wasn’t my plan to stay at home. I want to try tomorrow. I have a special glove and also an aid on the handlebars, but it will be very difficult,” the Aprilia captain confirmed his will to ride.
Help for Espargaro: Sachsenring almost only goes to the left
His right hand is injured, and that is an important detail. Even though Esparagaro is brave, he has to admit openly, given the severity of his injury: “If it had been a different track, I wouldn’t have even come.” The Sachsenring almost only goes to the left and is not a particularly fast track. The strain on the drivers is therefore limited in comparison to some other tracks such as Mugello.
Espargaro is hoping for the healthy side of his body: “Here in Germany there is only one hard braking zone before a right-hand bend, Turn 1. The rest is more or less fluid. I can also push on the left side, I don’t feel any pain there.” The first corner is therefore torture every time. And on Sunday there would be 30 laps of racing to overcome. So it’s no wonder that the situation has to be evaluated on Friday. The MotoGP doctors gave him the go-ahead for the first free practice session, but after that he will have to undergo another examination.
