Clemens Schmid will compete in at least one more race in the Endurance World Championship this year (WEC). The Austrian will return to the next race in Sao Paulo (July 14, 2024) in the #78 Lexus RC F GT3 from Akkodis ASP. Schmid will share the Japanese sports car in Brazil with Arnold Robin and DTM teammate Kelvin van der Linde.

Schmid succeeds Russian-born Timur Boguslavskiy in the Lexus customer team. According to Akkodis-ASP, the 24-year-old Silver driver has left the team to devote himself to “new challenges”, as they say without wanting to give exact reasons.

Timur Boguslavskiy leaves Akkodis ASP after six years

Boguslavskiy has competed for Akkodis ASP in GT3 racing since 2019, primarily in a Mercedes-AMG, and won the overall GT World Challenge Europe championship in 2020 and 2023, last year together with current BMW works driver Raffaele Marciello.

Schmid is replacing Boguslavskiy for the second time in the current WEC season: At the 6-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps in mid-May, the 33-year-old received a ‘last-minute call’ from Akkodis-ASP after the regular driver had withdrawn one day before the start of the event, according to the team for health reasons. In Spa, Schmid, Arnold Robin and Ritomo Miyata (replacing van der Linde) brought the team its first World Championship point with tenth place.

Boguslavskiy then returned to the wheel of the aging #78 Lexus RC F GT3 and made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. At the most important race of the year, Akkodis-ASP scored points for the first time with both cars in the new LMGT3 class, finishing seventh (Robin/Boguslavskiy/Van der Linde) and tenth (Kimura/Masson/Hawksworth).

Schmid has gained an ‘exotic’ experience this year with the GT3-Lexus: In the current DTM season, he is driving a McLaren 720 S GT3 from the newcomer team Dörr Motorsport. Before the upcoming season highlight at the Norisring in Nuremberg (5th – 7th July), Schmid is in 15th place in the overall standings with 20 points. Teammate and DTM rookie Ben Dörr has two points. Just a week later, Schmid, van der Linde and co. will be heading to Sao Paulo.
