Cadillac brings the Lyriq to Germany

The electric SUV is already available in the USA. The market launch in Germany is imminent, but with a significant price increase.

A good three years ago, Cadillac presented the electric car called Lyriq to the public for the first time. The vehicle has been on sale in North America since summer 2022. Now Europe is following, where General Motors – after countless rather unsuccessful attempts to gain a foothold – is trying again to win customers for the brand. After Switzerland, it is now Germany’s turn. The vehicles are sold through direct sales. With the Lyriq, the range then has a fully electric five-meter ship with the latest Cadillac design that stands out from the crowd. A wide, black and illuminated “crystal” grill dominates the front. The LED lights are located in a triangular housing. The vertical light signature of the daytime running lights underlines the enormous width of the E-SUV. The rear of the American slopes flat and is embedded in the taillights that extend far into the D-pillar. In the rear apron, the lights are again arranged vertically. The Lyriq also rolls on 21-inch rims and comes with Brembo brakes. A total of six different paint finishes are available.

Lots of horsepower and extensive equipment

In the interior, the driver and front passenger will find a curved 33-inch LED screen unit, which is familiar from the XXL SUV Escalade. The screens are supplemented by augmented reality features and also display individually customizable user interfaces. Below the screen unit there are controls for easier control of the air conditioning. Numerous settings can also be made using the various buttons on the steering wheel. The steering column lever behind it is used for the transmission, thus creating space in the center console. The AKG Studio audio system with 19 speakers is installed as standard – including a speaker in the headrest.

The large electric car is powered by two permanent magnet motors that generate a system output of 528 hp and 610 Newton meters of torque, drive all four wheels and enable a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. It tops out at 210 km/h. The built-in 102 kWh battery ensures a range of around 530 kilometers. This can be charged with up to 22 kW alternating current or with up to 190 kW direct current using a fast charger. According to the manufacturer, the charging time for a range of around 200 kilometers is around 15 minutes. In the USA, Cadillac also offers a weaker version with 340 hp, a single motor and rear-wheel drive. Speaking of the range: In this country, the Lyriq will be available in two equally priced versions called “Sport” and “Luxury”. The third option “Tech” is not offered. When it comes to equipment, Cadillac packs everything imaginable in the e-luxury segment into the vehicle in order to be able to keep up with BMW, Audi and Mercedes. The range is therefore long and extends from heated and cooled massage seats with nappa leather upholstery to a 360-degree all-round visibility system and partially autonomous driving features.

In terms of price, German customers have to pay a lot more for the Cadillac Lyriq compared to the USA. While overseas it costs around 54,000 euros, in Germany it only starts at 80,500 euros. But the American model is definitely cheaper than a comparable BMW iX xDrive50 with a proud price of 107,900 euros.
