The radio messages between Charles Leclerc and race engineer Xavier Marcos always caused amusement in Formula 1. This will end with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. Ferrari announced on Thursday that Xavier Marcos will be replaced by performance engineer Bryan Bozzi. This means Charles Leclerc is changing his race engineer for the first time since 2019.

Leclerc and Marcos: End of a 5-year partnership

It will be an unusual situation for Leclerc. The Monegasque and Xavier Marcos have been a team since 2019. Marcos previously worked as an engineer at the Maranello factory. The Spaniard previously worked for HRT and Williams in the premier class. Leclerc, on the other hand, moved from Sauber to Ferrari after the end of the 2018 Formula 1 season. Carlo Santi previously worked with Kimi Raikkönen at Scuderia.

Xavi Marcos’ new position is unknown. Ferrari only says that Marcos is now working on other important programs within the organization. However, Ferrari does not reveal an exact position. He is best known for saying: “We are checking” on the Ferrari radio.

But he also repeatedly caused a stir through other radio messages. In China he repeatedly discussed a “horizontal line” when cornering with Charles Leclerc. Leclerc, on the other hand, seemed confused and kept asking what exactly this horizontal line was.

Leclerc’s new race engineer: Bryan Bozzi

In Imola, Bryan Bozzi will be listening to Charles Leclerc’s radio. He had previously worked as a performance engineer for Leclerc.

From Ferrari it says: “Scuderia Ferrari announces that Bryan Bozzi, who has worked for the team for ten years, currently as performance engineer for Charles Leclerc, will take over his role from next weekend’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola race engineer will take over.”
