Just in time for its 10th anniversary, Formula E has extended its contract with the city of Berlin by six years until 2030. Both Berlin’s governing mayor Kai Wegner and Formula E co-founder and Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo confirmed this exclusively Motorsport-Magazin.com. The original contract would have expired this year.

“We are pleased to be the only location to be there from the start (2015) and to have been able to welcome the electric racing series here in the capital ever since. The extension of the agreement fits perfectly with today’s anniversary race [20. Rennen seit 2015; d. Red.]. The many fans here in Berlin can look forward to exciting and spectacular electric racing in the future,” said Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner, enthusiastic about the contract extension.
The new contract with the city is a 3 + 3 contract. After the first three years, i.e. in 2027, according to information from Motorsport-Magazin.com a one-time and bilateral right of termination. The future of the racing series in Germany is therefore secured for at least the next three years.
“Formula E belongs to Berlin and we want to keep Formula E. We are a sports metropolis and Formula E also belongs to this,” added Wegner, who has been the ruling mayor of the capital since April 27, 2023.

Alberto Longo, who, as co-founder of the racing series, has known the Berlin ePrix for 10 years now, was also pleased about the extension. “We are incredibly proud of it. Formula E has been a part of Berlin for ten years now,” the Spaniard spoke exclusively Motorsport-Magazin.com

The co-founder then gave some interesting insights into the contract negotiations. “At first we only talked about a three-year contract, but yesterday we asked ourselves: Why don’t we just do it 3 + 3? We are so happy here, the spectator stands are full again today. Hopefully the event will continue to grow. We want to stay together,” said Longo.
The announcement of the contract extension comes on the day of the Berlin ePrix in Tempelhof. The German Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein wants to take back the lead in the overall standings.
