Another new SUV from Renault

During the presentation of the Captur, it was already clear that Renault would be providing a larger version in combination with the city SUV in order to attract more customers in the SUV compact class. The exact external dimensions of the new model are 4.41 meters long (plus 17 centimeters compared to the Captur), 1.80 meters wide and 1.58 meters high. The wheelbase is 2.64 meters. The trunk volume is given as 492 or 624 liters (with the rear seat pushed forward) and can be expanded to up to 1,582 liters.

The basis of the Symbioz is the CMF-B platform on which the Captur is also based. The SUV will initially only be powered by a hybrid engine. This is the already well-known E-Tech 145 engine, which consists of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with 94 hp and a 36 kW electric motor. Together, the drive has a system output of 145 hp and is coupled to a clutchless multi-mode transmission (automatic). Additional gasoline engines are expected at a later date. There will be no more diesel at Renault.

Many similarities

Visually, the smaller Captur and the new Symbioz look very similar from the front. The first differences can then be seen on the sides of the vehicle. From the B-pillar onwards, the window line on the Symbioz only rises minimally. The roof runs almost straight to the rear. When viewed from behind, the lights form pointed triangles. The model name is prominently displayed below the new brand logo. A hint of silver-colored underrun protection conveys a bit of robustness. 18- or 19-inch models fit under the wheel arches.

At first glance, the cockpit doesn’t seem to differ much from that of its smaller brother. The upright 10.25-inch center display is the central control unit. The speedometer landscape is digital and measures 10.4 inches. For the software, Renault uses the Android-based “Automotive 12” operating system, which integrates numerous services such as Google Maps or Google Assistant. You can also add your own smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. In addition, there is the new “OpenR Link” system, which allows you to access numerous Renault apps related to the vehicle, even when you are not directly in the car.

When exactly the new Renault Symbioz will be launched has not yet been announced. The manufacturer is also keeping a low profile when it comes to prices. The smaller Captur starts at 22,950 euros in the basic “Evolution” version – but as a cheaper petrol engine and without a hybrid drivetrain.
