In recent years – with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the corona pandemic – the Adenauer Racing Day on the Wednesday before the start of the long racing weekend in the Eifel was always a popular meeting point for thousands of visitors and autograph hunters. The racing teams were represented on site with their cars and drivers and ensured the best possible mood for the 24-hour race.
Adenauer Racing Days cancelled due to construction site
Since the event traditionally takes place on the market square and the adjacent main street in the middle of Adenau, traffic has to be diverted via Wimbachstrasse. However, there is currently a construction site right here, which prevents the street from being used. According to the organizer, without a diversion there would have been no way to close Adenau’s most important traffic artery.
“We have of course looked for alternatives, but no place in the area would be suitable to accommodate thousands of people,” 24-hour race director Walter Hornung was quoted as saying in a press release. “That is why there will unfortunately be no Adenauer Racing Day this year.”
Anyone who would still like to meet the drivers of the 24h Nürburgring in person and pick up a selfie or autograph can do so on Friday evening from 7:45 p.m. at the official autograph session in the pit lane of the Grand Prix circuit.
