Toyota in the pits
A Toyota in the pits, but not the leading #8 Toyota, but the starting number #7. There, Nyck de Vries apparently cannot cope with the conditions and complains to his team about the visibility. However, the Dutchman comes back onto the track directly in traffic in P11. Meanwhile, the #3 Cadillac and the #63 Lamborghini serve their drive-through penalties.
Penalties for Cadillac and Lamborghini
And the first penalties come after the restart. The #3 Cadillac (Bourdais/van der Zande/Dixon) and the #63 Lamborghini (Bortolotti/Kvyat/Mortara) receive a drive-through penalty. The reason: driving too fast under full-course yellow conditions at 03:10.
Toyota maintains lead
The restart has taken place and Ryo Hirakawa confidently maintains the lead by around 1.5 seconds ahead of Lauens Vanthoor in the #6 Porsche-Penske. First impressions of the visibility conditions: Quite a lot of spray and a yellow flag is already out.
Restart at Le Mans
We’ll be back in time for the restart, though. The safety car has come in, Ryo Hirakawa in the #8 Toyota leads the field at the restart ahead of the #6 Porsche-Penske and the #50 Ferrari. Behind them is the #7 Toyota, ahead of the #83 customer Ferrari from AF Corse, which was in the lead for a long time yesterday.
24 Hours of Le Mans interrupted
However, there has been no racing action for some time now. The race has been neutralized since 03:47 for safety reasons (heavy rain and a lot of water on the track). This means that the race has been driven behind the safety car since then.
