Race Facts: Preview Race 22
The 22nd stop of the regular season in the 2024 NASCAR calendar is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is the 28th edition of the NASCAR Cup. The superspeedway is a race track in speedway that is completely surrounded by the city of Indianapolis. The largest sports stadium in America has a spectator capacity of 350,000 in the stands and in the infield. The ‘Hall of Fame’ museum is also located there.
The winners celebrate their victory not only in ‘Gasoline Alley’, but also at the famous Brickyards. In the 1960s, the track’s brick surface was completely replaced with asphalt, except for a one-yard-wide strip at the start and finish line, which earned the oval the name ‘The Brickyard’.
The race at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been held on the road course and not on the traditional track for the past three years. Starting this 2024 season, points will be awarded again on the original track. 160 laps will be driven on the 2.5-mile quad oval. The stages are divided into 50, 60 and a final 60 laps.
Fuel window: 36-38 rounds
Goodyear Tire Notes: 11 sets of tyres (+1 set/qualifying)
Victory Lane: The last polesetters, winners & record winners at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Since the original 2.5-kilometer quad oval has not been raced on for the past three years, there are only two active winners on the entry list for 2024. Kyle Busch won in the 2015 season and for the second time a year later. On Sunday, Busch will compete in his 700th Cup race. Brad Keselowski was the last active winner in 2018.
