Race Facts: Preview Race 21
The 21st stop of the regular season on the 2024 NASCAR calendar is Pocono Raceway. The 2.5-mile tri-oval is one of the superspeedways on the NASCAR calendar. 90 races have been held in Long Pond since 1974.
Starting with the 1982 season, a second race date was added per season. The race distance was shortened from 500 to 400 miles in 2012. In 2020 and 2021, the two races in Long Pond were held as a doubleheader. The back-to-back race on Saturday and Sunday was the first event in this format in 2021. Starting with the 2022 season, there will only be one event on the NASCAR calendar.
Pocono Raceway has a unique design. Each corner was designed and built based on three different race tracks. Although it resembles a tri-oval in shape, the corners are much tighter and are hairpin style, so that the track is almost a triangle. Hence the nickname of the track: ‘Tricky Triangle’.
What makes things even more difficult is that the corners are not identical and the straights are also of different lengths. Turn 1 has a banking of 14 degrees, turn 2 of eight degrees and turn 3 is banked by six degrees. The race on Sunday is over 160 laps. The stages are divided into 30, 65 and a further final 65 laps.
Fuel window: 38-42 rounds
Goodyear Tire Notes: 6 sets of tyres (+1 set/qualifying)
Victory Lane: The last polesetters, winners & record winners at Pocono Raceway
After his success last year, Denny Hamlin is the most successful driver of all time on the ‘Tricky Triangle’ with seven victories. Kyle Busch follows with four victories ahead of Martin Truex Junior, who was in Victory Lane twice. Toyota teams have won eight of the last eleven races.

Driver Ranking 20/2024
Top 20 after the 20th race of the 2024 season on the Chicago Street Course
Motorsport-Magazin.com After each race, the current form of all NASCAR drivers is determined based on the results of the last six races.
Christopher Bell was replaced by Tyler Reddick after four weeks at the top of the rankings. Reddick was last number one in April 2023. Reigning champion Ryan Blaney is now second. It is his best placing in 16 races. Bell is now only third. Kyle Larson and teammate Chase Elliott swapped positions. This means that the top five remain among themselves.
Behind them, there were huge changes due to the surprising results of the rain race in Chicago. Todd Gilliland and winner Alex Bowman were the big winners and are now in seventh and eighth place. Daniel Suarez also improved significantly. Ricky Stenhouse Junior, Ty Gibbs and Michael McDowell also managed a comeback in the top 20.
Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain, who lost ten and eight positions respectively, were the big losers on the street course. Martin Truex Junior, Ryan Preece and rookie Josh Berry were dropped from the rankings. The two Richard Childress drivers Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon are currently only in the disappointing 30th and 32nd places.
