Race Facts: Preview Race 16
The 16th stop of the 2024 regular season is Sonoma Raceway. It is the second of a total of five road course races of the current season.
Since 1989, 34 circuit races have been held on the now shortened 1.99-mile roller coaster. The track name has changed three times during this time. Sears Point Raceway became Infineon Raceway and since 2013 Sonoma Raceway has been the official name. The street circuit is located in the middle of the famous Californian wine county of Sonoma, between the hills in northern California, near the city of Sonoma, north of San Francisco. The new track layout has eleven corners in a total of 110 laps. The race distance is divided into three stages of 25, 30 and a final 55 laps.

Fuel window: 42-44 rounds
Goodyear Tire Notes: 5 sets of tyres (+1 set/qualifying)
Victory Lane: The last polesetters, winners & record winners at the Sonoma Raceway
Last year, Martin Truex Junior won the road course for the fourth time. He holds the record among active drivers. Kyle Busch won two races, most recently in 2015. Before Truex’s last victory, Kyle Larson and Daniel Suarez were also successful. This means that there are only four active winners on the starting list.

Starting list with driver change for the 16th race of the season in Sonoma
38 drivers have been registered by the teams for the 16th race of the season at Sonoma Raceway. This is only the 14th time this season that there will not be a full starting field of 40 drivers. Two open teams are on the entry list and are therefore eligible to start.
There were the usual two driver changes among the 36 charter teams. Rookie Kaz Grala will be driving for Cody Ware in his 13th race of the season with the #15 at Rick Ware Racing. AJ Allmendinger will be driving for Derek Kraus in his fifth race with the #16 at Kaulig Racing.
There are two debutants among the open teams in Sonoma. Richard Childress Racing is entering a third Chevrolet with the #33 for the fourth time this season. Australian Will Brown most recently competed in the Repco Supercars series. Between 2018 and 2022, the 26-year-old took one win in 54 races.
The second newcomer is Cam Waters, who will drive a third Ford for RFK Racing with the #60. He is also Australian and 30 years old. He also comes from the Repco Supercars series, where he achieved seven victories in a total of 202 races from 2011 to 2022. In the championships he finished second, fifth and third in recent years. This season he competed twice in the Truck series. 30th place after a crash in Martinsville and 19th place in Kansas were his first NASCAR results.
