SARGODHA: JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday reiterated his demand for fresh elections, declaring that the current assembly lacks legitimacy. Addressing party workers in Khushab, he argued that the country’s governance was ineffective, describing it as “putting the cart before the horse.”
Maulana Fazl emphasized JUI-F’s role in the opposition, affirming the party’s commitment to this position. He highlighted JUI-F’s active participation in discussions on the recent constitutional amendment alongside other opposition parties, underscoring the party’s status as a key stakeholder in these matters.
Commenting on the recent transition in the Supreme Court, Maulana Fazl expressed optimism for a “constructive term” under the newly appointed Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. However, he refrained from discussing the tenure of outgoing CJP Qazi Faez Isa, stating that further comments would be unnecessary.
Earlier, speaking to supporters and the media in Sargodha, the JUI-F leader affirmed the finality of the Federal Shariat Court’s ruling on implementing an interest-free economy, anticipating a successful transition to this system by 2028.
When questioned about the jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, Maulana Fazl responded that it was premature to discuss any potential negotiations or meetings.
Maulana Fazl also commended the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting, describing it as a positive economic development. He urged all political parties to unite in efforts to improve the economy.
In response to inquiries about potential government plans for a new constitutional amendment, the JUI-F chief stated that he was unaware of any such initiatives. He assured that his party would oppose any attempts to include the 26th Amendment in future legislation.
