KARACHI: Embarking on a journey of spiritual significance, the “Road to Makkah” project was formally launched amidst grandeur at Karachi airport, heralding a monumental step in facilitating the Hajj pilgrimage. As the inaugural ceremony unfolded, the departure of the maiden Hajj flight of Saudi Airlines from Jinnah International Terminal to Medina marked the commencement of a sacred odyssey for the intending pilgrims.
Dignitaries graced the occasion, including Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmed Al Maliki, and Chairman of Saudi Immigration and Passport Lt Gen Sulaiman bin Abdulaziz Al Yahya, converging to ceremoniously inaugurate the project at the international lounge of the airport.
In his address, Lt Gen Al Yahya elucidated on the infusion of innovative technological and artificial intelligence services aimed at enriching the Road to Makkah experience, underscoring a commitment to seamless facilitation.
Ambassador Al Maliki underscored the streamlined immigration procedures at Karachi airport, ensuring a frictionless passage for Pakistani pilgrims embarking on their spiritual odyssey to Saudi Arabia.
Governor Tessori extended a gracious invitation to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to visit Sindh, echoing the robust bilateral relations between the two nations.
The event witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Secretary of Religious Affairs Dr Syed Attaur Rehman and Hajj Director Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, signifying the collaborative efforts of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in this monumental endeavor.
Ambassador Al Maliki reaffirmed the enduring fraternal bonds between the two nations, emphasizing Karachi airport’s inclusion in the Road to Makkah project as a testament to their unwavering solidarity.
Governor Tessori lauded the project’s benefits, anticipating a streamlined process benefiting 35,500 pilgrims from Karachi this year. He also expressed optimism regarding Pakistan’s trade agreements with Saudi Arabia, envisioning substantial investments contributing to economic prosperity.
Lt Gen Al Yahya delineated the objectives of the Road to Makkah initiative, emphasizing its mandate to expedite immigration procedures and furnish enhanced services to pilgrims worldwide, including those from Pakistan.
Through the integration of cutting-edge technological advancements such as electronic visas and mobile fingerprint authentication, the Makkah Road initiative aspires to optimize the Hajj experience for all pilgrims embarking on this sacred journey.
