Sanjay Leela Bhansali said- Sharmin had the perfect face for the role of Alamzeb which I had seen. If you have seen the role of Alamzeb, then it is shown in it that she does not want to become a courtesan. I was looking for a new fresh face for this role. Whose face also has innocence. Who does not talk like a courtesan. Who is interested in poetry. So keeping all these things in mind, I found Sharmin perfect for the role of Alamzeb.

Talking about Sharmin’s trolling, Sanjay said- I did not cast her because she is my niece. She auditioned for this role many times. During this time she went through many tests. I don’t know how many tests I took of her, I don’t remember the count properly.
When I decided to cast Sharmin, I told her that you will have to give tests. You will have to have a good grasp on the character of Alamzeb. Because this is a world where you have never stepped in before. You have never acted. All these actors I have cast have had a career spanning years. They have played so many roles. They know what elegance is, how to bring it on screen, but you don’t know. You will have to learn all this. Elegance, tantrums and everything.
