New Delhi. People still love to watch many films of the 90s. In the year 1998, two films were much talked about. The first was ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and the second was ‘Soldier’. Preity Zinta made her Bollywood debut with Ramesh Taurani’s film ‘Soldier’, after which she never looked back. This action-thriller achieved tremendous success at the box office. This film proved to be the second highest grossing film of the year 1998. People loved the pairing of Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta in the film. One of the reasons for the success of the film was also the music of this film. For some time now, there have been talks about the sequel of this film. Now Ramesh Taurani has confirmed the sequel of the film.
Bobby Deol had given a hint about the sequel of Soldier some time ago. Recently, the film’s producer Ramesh Taurani confirmed that its sequel will come soon. He said, ‘We are definitely making a sequel to Soldier and will start shooting the film next year i.e. in 2025.’
Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasury may not have been a part of ‘Ishq Vishk Rebound’, but will Bobby Deol and Zinta reprise their roles in Soldier 2? In response to this question, he spoke with our sister website News 18. He said, we are not sure about the cast yet. It depends on how the story shapes up. We will decide whether Bobby and Preeti will be a part of it or not.
The second top film of 1998 was Soldier.
Talking about how ‘Soldier’ became Preity Zinta’s launch pad despite her having started shooting for teenage pregnancy-based ‘Kya Kehna’, the producer of ‘Merry Christmas’ and ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ said, “We had first signed her (Preity) for ‘Kya Kehna’ but it released late. When we were making it, ‘Soldier’ which was a very big film for us was also going on the floors and we cast Preity in ‘Soldier’ as well.”
So, what was the reason for the delay in the release of ‘Kya Kehna’? Answering this question, Ramesh Taurani said, ‘Soldier’ was also ready by April 1998. We wanted to release it in August but we couldn’t. The reason was that we had the music rights of another film starring Bobby, ‘Kaareeb’, which was made by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. We wanted to release its music in June and the film in August. This was also because we didn’t want two of Bobby’s films to release in the same month.
Taurani further adds, ‘We were worried about how both the trailers would perform if they released at the same time. Even two films starring the same actor, so we had to release ‘Kaariv’ first.
