Salman Khan was first seen in a supporting character in the 1988 film ‘Biwi Ho To Aisi’. He started his career as a lead actor with Sooraj Barjatya’s 1989 film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. Recently, in an interview, when Salman was asked about his favorite film, he immediately named ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. He also shared a funny anecdote from the shooting of the film.

The story of the song ‘Kabootar Ja Ja’

In a conversation with Hello, Salman recalled a moment from the shooting of the famous song ‘Kabootar Ja Ja’, which brought tears to his eyes. He said- I was about 18 years old at that time, and I have a very funny memory during the shooting of the song ‘Kabootar Ja Ja’.

Salman said that I suddenly realized that this character is for me. Because before that whenever there was narration, I used to imagine Jackie Shroff or Anil Kapoor for this character. But I had not imagined myself doing a big film at that time. That was the moment when I felt that ‘yes’ I can do it. At that time there were tears in my eyes.

Salman was selected for the lead role in Maine Pyar Kiya by Rajshri after several auditions. The film also starred Bhagyashree alongside him. While Salman continued to be a film star and appeared in several hit films in the 1990s, Bhagyashree took a break from films after a few years to focus on her family.

Even after the success of Maine Pyar Kiya, Salman had to wait a few years for his next hit. During the IIFA Awards 2022, Salman talked about that phase of his life. He said- After the release of Maine Pyar Kiya, Bhagyashree decided that she did not want to work anymore, because she wanted to get married. And she walked away with all the credit.

I had no films for six months. And then a ‘god like man’, Ramesh Taurani, came into my life. My father at that time gave me Rs 2,000 and convinced producer GP Sippy to make a fake announcement in a film industry newspaper that he had signed me for a film. GP did so but there was no picture. Ramesh Taurani went to Sippy’s office and gave him Rs 5 lakh for a song in the film. It was because of those Rs 5 lakh that I finally got a film called ‘Patthar Ke Phool’ in 1991.
