Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film ’12th Fail’ proved that if the subject of the film is good then the audience will definitely come to the theater to watch the film. Bhushan Kumar of T-Series also admits that due to the success of ’12th Fail’, he thought of releasing the film ‘Srikanth’ in theatres. However, Rajkumar Rao was not sure about the success of this film. They wanted the film to come on OTT and not in theatres.
While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, Bhushan Kumar told that he had locked the film ‘Srikanth’ for the Diwali party 3-4 months before Covid. He says- ‘After Covid arrived, no one knew what would happen next? The casting of the film took place during Covid and the shooting of the film started after Covid.
When theaters opened after Covid, audiences were watching movies on OTT only. Releasing films in theaters was a bit of a risk. Bhushan Kumar said- We were going to release Srikanth last year itself. We thought this was a very beautiful film. Let’s release this film at a good time. I was very confident about the subject and director of the film, but when we saw the film for the first time, I was a little worried whether the film would run in theaters or not.
Earlier even Rajkumar Rao was not in favor of releasing Srikanth in theatre. He was not sure about the success of this film. They wanted the film to come on OTT and not in theatres. Bhushan Kumar said- Rajkumar Rao was a little worried. They wanted the film to be released on OTT, but when I saw ‘Srikanth’ again after ’12th Fail’, I told Rajkumar that the film has to be taken on the front foot. This film will run 100 percent. Get ready for promotion.
Bhushan Kumar believes that ‘Srikanth’ is a film which is getting a lot of respect. He says, ‘We make a lot of films. Earn money also. But no other film has received the respect that this film has. Director Tushar Hiranandani has made this film very happy, which people are liking. This is our film which has been made within the budget. Normally our films are over budget. It was a lot of fun working with Tushar and Nidhi and we look forward to working together again.
