Raghav Chadha drew everyone’s attention to the piracy issue by sharing a post on Instagram. He said that the situation is so bad that online piracy has increased by 62%. A year ago we passed the Cinematograph Bill but there is no concrete mechanism against online piracy. This bill focuses only on anti-cam recording in multiplexes. He asked the government about the steps taken.
Raghav Chadha wrote in his post, ‘Piracy is a big problem. It is a plague that has spread to the film industry and now the OTT world as well. The film industry is losing Rs 20,000 crore annually due to piracy. Online piracy saw a 62% increase during the pandemic.’
Raghav Chadha further said, ‘We passed the Cinematographic (Amendment) Bill a year ago, but it does not have any concrete mechanism against online piracy. It mainly focuses on anti-cam recording in multiplexes. Finally, he asked a question to the government, “As we are going digital and more films are being streamed on the platform. What measures are being taken to stop digital piracy on OTT? Does the government have any plans to bring a dedicated law for this issue?
