New Delhi: Filmmaker Payal Kapadia has brought glory to India at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. Her film ‘All We Imagine as Light’ has won the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated filmmaker Payal Kapadia, who brought glory to India at the Cannes Film Festival, through the social media platform X.

PM Modi praised the filmmaker on X on Sunday, writing, “India is proud of Payal Kapadia’s historic achievement of winning the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for ‘All We Imagine as Light’. An FTII alumnus, her exceptional talent shines on the global stage, showcasing the creativity in India. This award not only honours her exceptional skills but also inspires a new generation of Indian filmmakers.”

In the last 30 years, no Hindi film was nominated in the Cannes Film Festival. This opportunity was given to Indian female director Payal Kapadia. Her film reached such a big platform and also won the second most prestigious award. The special thing is that the story of this film ‘All We Imagine As Light’ has been written by Payal Kapadia herself.

Payal’s mother is also an artist
Payal has written the story of the film in Malayalam and Hindi languages. The lead roles in this film are Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam. 38-year-old Payal Kapadia’s mother Nalini Malini has also been an artist. Payal Kapadia has a bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
