‘Overconfident, never came on time’, the director who made him a superstar exposed Shatrughan Sinha

Mumbai. Subhash Ghai called Shatrughan Sinha an ‘overconfident’ actor. Subhash Ghai is also the Rakhi brother of Shatrughan’s wife Poonam Sinha. Subhash made his Bollywood debut as a director with Kalicharan in 1976. This film proved to be a superhit. After this, Shatrughan and Subhash worked together in two more films – ‘Vishwanath’ and ‘Gautam Govinda’. Subhash talked about Shatrughan Sinha’s working style in Arbaaz Khan’s talk show ‘The Invincibles’. He said that he did not reach the set on time.

Subhash Ghar told Arbaaz Khan, “Shatrughan Sinha was overconfident. Shatrughan’s biggest problem was that he never used to reach on time.” Kalicharan was a major turning point in Shatrughan Sinha’s career. This film took him to new heights of success. After the release of Kalicharan, he started getting offers and in the years following the film, Shatrughan did many films.

In the year 1977, Shatrughan Sinha alone had 9 films released. In 1978, he appeared in 7 films. This included Subhash Ghai’s ‘Vishwanath’. In 1979, he appeared in 8 films, one of which was Subhash Ghai’s ‘Gautam Govinda’. Apart from Shatrughan, Subhash also talked about Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor.

Subhash Ghai talked about bad actors. He called Jackie Shroff a bad actor, while Anil Kapoor a good actor. He said, “There are two types of actors. One is a non-actor and the other is a bad actor. Jackie Shroff was a bad actor, Anil Kapoor is a good actor.”

Subhash Ghai worked with Jackie Shroff in ‘Hero’, which was also his first film. He worked with Anil Kapoor in ‘Meri Jung’. He also worked with both of them in ‘Karma’ and ‘Ram Lakhan’. He again worked with Jackie in ‘Khalnayak’ and with Anil in ‘Taal’. All these films were huge hits.
