New Delhi. Happy Friendship Day: Friendship Day is this Sunday, 4th August. This day of friendship is celebrated on the first Sunday of August. The bond of friendship is bigger than all other relationships. Many stories, plays and films have been made on friendship. From Bollywood, Kollywood, Tollywood to Hollywood, every industry has made films based on friendship. Many films have been made on friendship since the beginning of Bollywood. In Dilip Kumar and Vaijayanti Mala starrer Naya Daur, we saw the friendship of Shankar and Krishna, who are ready to sacrifice their love and give their lives for the sake of friendship.

Satyen Bose’s ‘Dosti’, released in 1964, created history. Sudhir Kumar Sawant and Sushil Kumar Somaya played the roles of handicapped people in the film. Despite being handicapped, both of them became each other’s support. This film also set new parameters of friendship. Even today, the song ‘Meri Dosti Mera Pyar’ from this film on friendship is heard a lot.

In 1975, when filmmaker Ramesh Sippy’s Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Sholay’ was released, it changed the meaning of friendship. Jai-Veeru’s friendship gave people a new perspective. Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan started to seem like friends off screen as well as on screen. Not only this film but its song ‘Yeh dosti hum nahi todenge’ also became evergreen.

Just like Jai-Veeru, who are ready to live and die for each other, they were also seen in Manmohan Desai’s ‘Dharam Veer’ in 1997. Like Jai-Veeru, Manmohan also capitalized on the friendship of Dharam and Veer. Dharmendra played the role of Dharam in the film and Veer was played by Jeetendra. The song ‘Saat Ajube Is Duniya Mein’ based on friendship from the film proved to be a superhit.

Whenever Dharmendra-Amitabh’s ‘Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge’ is played, ‘Saat Ajube’ is also played. Talking about the budget of ‘Sholay’ and ‘Dharam Veer’, according to SACNILC, ‘Sholay’ was made in Rs 3 crores in those days and it collected Rs 50 crores. Whereas ‘Dharam Veer’ was made in Rs 2 crores and collected Rs 13 crores.
